Neighbors:
A friendly reminder from our neighbors and partners at the Grant Park Neighborhood. Thanks to Mr. Ken Peterson.
NE/SE 20's Bikeway - Meeting Tonight
Just a reminder that there is a public meeting to gather neighbor feedback for the proposed NE/SE 20's Bikeway project this evening between 6 and 8:30 p.m. at the Fremont United Methodist Church, 2620 NE Fremont. Don't worry, no one will be keeping track of whether or not you bike up the Fremont hill or arrive by other means. Among the likely topics:
- Will the route take NE 28th or NE 26th in Grant Park?
- Will the Broadway crossing be at 28th, as at present, with its narrow, congested approach to Broadway from Sullivan's Gulch, or will it use a new route on 26th with a new crossing on 26th and Broadway? What kind of crossing should it be (signal, flashing lights, cross walk, etc.), if this route is selected?
- Although not technically in our neighborhood, one major issue of interest is what to do about the stretch of 28th Avenue between Burnside and Sandy. It is heavily traveled by both cars and bicycles and there are a variety of proposals being studied that include as alternatives, using an different street for the bikeway, eliminating parking on one side of 28th, creating a dedicated bikeway between parked cars and the curb, etc. In the long run, this may be the issue that most affects those of us who like to visit the many restaurants and businesses on that part of 28th. For a quick snap shot of some of these issues, go here https://www.portlandoregon.gov/transportation/article/478968
Hope to see you there, and please pass this on to any friends and neighbors who you think might be interested. If you can't make it tonight, there will be two other meetings, on March 17 and March 18, but they will not be as convenient to us.
