Building healthy, livable communities with the Climate Smart Communities Scenarios Project

What will your community look like in 2035?

How will our choices today shape how we live, work and get around in the future? The Climate Smart Communities Scenarios Project brings together community, business and public leaders to help build healthy, livable communities while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from cars, trucks and SUVs in the Portland metropolitan region.

If you've provided input on the project over the past several months, there are upcoming opportunities for you to stay involved. If you are new to the project, you'll find links to resources below.

How to provide input
  • Opt In online survey Weigh in with your opinion about what's important to you about the future of your community. Visit www.climatesmartsurvey.com to sign up and take a 5-6 minute survey.
Where to learn more
  • Follow the story of how the region is planning for the future with input from local communities in The Portland Tribune and Community Newspapers. For a complete list of articles, see below.
  • Learn more about strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the impact they may have on the region by following the Climate Future Series at Metro News.
  • Explore the results of workshops and focus groups convened with community leaders on public health, the environment and equity to gather input on strategies being considered for supporting local visions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. (Coming soon – results from focus groups with business owners.)
  • Read about how the Climate Smart Communities Scenarios Project will help the region’s cities and counties define their goals for the next 20 years.

  • May 2013 Public leaders confirm questions we need to answer to have informed discussion on various choices.
  • October 2013 Begin regional discussion on the benefits and tradeoffs of various choices to decide which elements should be included in a preferred approach.
